For over 20 years, our dedicated Reach4Sky team of swimmers and supporters has been coming together every 2 years for an open water swim. We swim to raise much-needed funds and awareness for Cure SMA in memory of Skylar, a beautiful, smart, and amazing young boy, who lost his battle to Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) when he was seven.
This year to celebrate Skylar's 21st birthday and reach as many swimmers and supporters as possible, Reach4Sky is going on the road. Jim and the team will be swimming at six venues, totaling 10 swims, covering 21 miles in San Francisco, Long Beach, Oceanside, San Diego, Oahu, and Tampa.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disease that robs people of their physical strength, significantly impacting an individual’s ability to walk, swallow, or breathe. It affects one in 11,000 births in the United States, and one in 50 people is a genetic carrier. There is no cure yet, but there is great reason for hope. And that is why we continue to fundraise for Cure SMA.
Research funded by Cure SMA is driving therapies that are changing the course of SMA, including three FDA-approved treatments, and new treatments on the horizon. Together, we have the power to meet the ever-changing needs of people with SMA and build a stronger future for generations to come.
Please support our efforts by making a tax-deductible gift today! Together we are stronger and can make a difference as we reach for a Cure!
Much aloha and Many thanks,
Jim, Liz, Spencer, Sawyer, and Angel Skylar
